2007 - 2008 Season: The Symphony Spotlights.....

October 13, 2007: Spotlight on the Piano.
Concert goers will have an opportunity to hear one of the most popular piano concertos worldwide.  Internationally acclaimed pianist David Syme plays Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor. He receives instant standing ovations and glowing reviews and is compared to some of the greatest classical pianists of all time.

November 10, 2007: Spotlight on Zoo-ology. Family Concert, 7:30 p.m.
This Family Concert (not a part of the subscription series) will be a fun program featuring music with an animal theme. Planned selections include The Jogger and the Dinosaur by Gould, Bear Dance by Bartok and Baby Elephant Walk by Mancini.

December 8, 2007: Spotlight on Handbells and Sleighbells. 
The Potpourri Ringers, a handbell choir directed by Nancy Slezak, returns as the feature performer for this program. Holiday music, an audience sing-along and basket auction are included.

February 16, 2008: Spotlight on Joe Negri Trio.
Well-known popular area jazz guitarist Joe Negri and his trio will perform a Gershwin Medley, Chicken-ala-Swing, Mr. Rogers Memorial and Flight of the Bumblebee. The concert opens with Dvorak’s Carnival Overture.  

March 15, 2008: Spotlight on a Rising Star.
This concert features the winner of the 27th Annual Young Artist Competition (High School category this year). The competition is held in January with the winner announced shortly thereafter. The featured orchestra performance is Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

May 3, 2008: Spotlight on Sax-y Music.
The men of Capitol Quartet will dazzle the audience as well as the orchestra with their flashy technique, bright clothes and dynamic style. This is an entertaining musical experience of spectacular artistry, with wonderful arrangements of swing-era classics, film music and great fun.
