2021 Concerto Competition

Collegiate Level

The College Division Concerto Competition, sponsored by the Butler County Symphony Association, will be held digitally this year due to an abundance of caution surrounding Covid-19. Musicians will submit a video audition for our judges, and there will be winners from three categories (vocal, instrumental, and piano) who will each receive the opportunity to have their concerto recorded by a professional videographer and featured on the Butler County Symphony Orchestra website and social media pages. One overall winner will be selected to receive an additional monetary award of $400. 

Competition Timeline:
-Application deadline: Saturday, March 27, 2021
-Winners Announced: Monday, April 12, 2021
-Arrangements for recording will need to be made with the videographer and selected winners
-Overall Winner will receive $400 prize at their recording session 

The Competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists who are high school graduates, not exceeding 25 years of age, and are residents within a 25-mile radius of Butler, OR any non-resident student currently attending Allegheny College, Clarion University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Indiana University of PA, Slippery Rock University, Thiel College, or Westminster College. (Residents may be attending a school in any location.)

Orchestral instruments, piano, and voice, are acceptable. Instrumentalists should prepare a movement from a concerto, or a piece of music with orchestral accompaniment. Vocalists should prepare 3-4 arias or part of a song cycle with orchestral accompaniment. Time limit for all soloists is 15 minutes.
